Julie - Don't look!

So this is not really vegan-specific, but it's too adorable to not talk about!  My good friend Julie is pregnant! She's been talking about it on facebook for quite a while, so I assume it's okay to announce here as well.  Julie, if you're reading, then stop!  You don't want to ruin the surprise that's coming to you and Ellie.

Pregnancy is nothing new to Julie, but I haven't been the best about getting presents to her for all her offspring.  I saw this adorable baby sleeping shirt pattern on Oiyi's blog, and knew it would be perfect.  I made this one in a very nice 100% cotton.  It's actually a really pretty pink color, not a weird orangy color.  If I have a chance before I mail it off, I'll get a picture in the sunlight that might show the color better.

* I promise it's a pretty color *
It's practically finished.  For how adorable it is, the whole thing worked up pretty quickly.  I just have a tiny bit of one sleeve left and then to get some buttons for the other sleeve.  In fact, it would be done already if I could lay my hands on the size four double point needles that I *know* I own ... Maybe I just made that up, though.  So the whole thing could be done in two days if you're better prepared than I, even for a slow knitter like me.  I'll admit that the honeycomb was a little finicky, and there are a few errors in there ... but hopefully Ellie won't be too judgey about that :)

* I resisted the urge to try to put this on Lilly;
I want her to keep loving me *
I love making gifts for my friends' kiddos; it feels so much more personal, even though I imagine they would probably like a million more diapers just as much.  What are your go-to gifts when you find out a friend is expecting?

  1. That's so adorable! Also, I can't tell if Lillith is playing with the yarn or laying claim to the sweater.

  2. I made an almost identical thing for a friend of mine a few years ago, but mine was a dress and I didn't do the honeycomb thing. I just straight up knit/purled in stockinette stitch and then did garter for the bottom rows.

    Yours is much fancier, in other words.
