Today, I'm going to share with you one of the very few things I learned at my second legitimate job, working at a mall cookie shop: making a delicious chocolate drizzle. I worked at this job for approximately a year when I was 16, and, like all crap high school jobs, it was an experience. I won't get into the ins and outs of mall work just now, because I imagine you had to be there for most of it to make any sense at all. I'll just show you this amazing drizzle of chocolate and the super simple way to get it without even thinking about a double boiler.
| * You could drizzle chocolate on most anything, and it would be better. * |
First: put some chocolate in a plastic baggie. Here I have about 40 chocolate chips, which was enough to drizzle onto eight muffins. You can do the exact same thing with a bar of chocolate, chunks, bakers chocolate -- pretty much anything.
Get a cup with some hot water in it. I usually just put some water in a glass and microwave it for about 90 seconds. Dunk the closed baggie of chocolate in the water and let it sit there for a few minutes.

And get ready to drizzle!
Drizzle till your little heart bursts with happiness!
Super easy, super fast, and I have eight lovely drizzled muffins in no time.
In case you're interested in full disclosure, these muffins are a veganized version of the egg-free chocolate-banana loaf from Vegetarian Times. It's an easy veganization: I just replaced the buttermilk with a mixture of soymilk and apple cider vinegar. I used three smallish mashed bananas but didn't measure them. I got 14 muffins total (in really fantastic Halloween wrappers). These are some delicious muffins; they aren't too sweet, and the chocolate drizzle on top really gives them a nice kick of flavor.
Does anyone else have an easy shortcut for things like drizzling chocolate?
If anyone is interested in other things I learned at the cookie store: Use cookie scoops -- they are super awesome! All kinds of things can go on in an walk-in freezer that you do not want to walk in on or be privy to. Also, I am not meant to be in charge of a group of high school students, at least not while I was also a high schooler.

Chocolate muffins with chocolate drizzle? Are there chocolate chips in there, too? You would totally be my hero if there are (not that you aren't already)!
ReplyDeleteI have used this method before to drizzle glazes on cookies and chocolate covered strawberries. Makes them look extra fancy! Even when my parchment paper piping bags fail me, I can manage to use plastic bags for decorating cupcakes. Pretty neat to see how versatile a plastic sandwich bag can be!
Great shortcut for drizzling chocolate! I'm a little afraid of what high schoolers could be up to in a cookie store on their own. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat looks so easy. I love chocolate muffins with chocolate drizzle.
